My first taste of the startup mayhem was in the late 90’s, when I was part of a founding team looking at how to understand online community. I do remeber the ridiculous amount of online video “documentaries” of startups. So ihave to admit i was bemused to see the Techstars/ Bloomberg doc. For your viewing pleasure– and thanks Webstartup.me for organizing!

Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Shopbop, Spotify, Instagram: Just a few of my favorite ways to waste time.
As fun as the innovation economy has been, it’s also created a lot of distractions. Have trouble focusing? Here’s three great tips from Harvard Business Review:
- Stay Positive: Feeling out of control? Your emotions may be out of balance. Psychologist Barbara Frederickson advocates for a 3:1 ration btw positive and negative feelings. So if you’re feeling down, find some time to mediate, exercise, or jot down a few things you are grateful for: it will help.
- Apply the Breaks: With the ABC method: (1) Be Aware of the distractions around you; (2) Breathe! and consider your options, and (3) Make a choice: Now that you’ve slowed down your brain a bit.
- Shift Sets: Sometimes you just need a break! Go walk around the building: letting your mind rest while your body get’s it’s move on will leave you feeling fresh and creative.
Read all the tips here, zen out, and regain your focus!
